Happy Anniversary
Soar High at 20!
In keeping with the times,
SHAPII is living in simpler terms and ways. Everyone is ever grateful to
God and with full appreciation for everyone who has contributed to its existence.
Today, it celebrates its 20th anniversary in stark simplicity and austerity.
What are outstanding are the activities to foster fellowship and merrymaking.
An Offering of the Holy sacrifice of the Mass will be held at 6:30 AM on August 18 at the St. Joseph Church as
officiated by our new parish priest, Rev. Fr. Nestor Caduyag. A filling breakfast of Consuelo’s
big burger and juice, raffles with washing machine, as its first prize will be distributed at the
SHAPII canteen after it. Souvenir item is an hmp “pamaypay”.
It is expected that all workers and stockholders of SHAPII, SHAPII Foundation and its scholars,
SHAPIISHOP CDO,and the fossilized leaves makers will join in for a crowd of about 350-375 people.
Administration staff and supervisors are going on a field trip to CorBox and STEAG in Tagoloan and
Villanueva respectively at 9 AM. Others will be doing pingpong and other sports activities or watching
a film showing.
On Aug. 17, 2007, there will be an offering to the public of free internet use at the SHAPII
Computer Laboratory in SF, an open house with guided tour in the manufacturing area . There will be
a daily film showing at 5:30-7:30, starting Aug. 13-18.At the CDO SHAPIISHOP and Salay showroom is
a 15%-20% sale of selected products for the whole month of August.
In the meantime, we continue to work and to pray. We expect to have guests in the person of Saffy’s
Mr. Cleh Dagaraga, Airees Rondain of Imaginovation of Manila and Nicolas Saillard of Signalethique this month.
From the Manager's Desk SHAPII Finally Connected
by: Neil Francis C. Rafisura, General Manager
SHAPII has been operating for 20 years manufacturing handmade papers and exporting them to many countries where
the demand is great. But did you know that the Main Office in Salay never had an internet connection until June 2007?
The wonder is that we managed to keep our customers happy with the company’s reliability on prompt communications and
shipments even without it.
How did we do this? Well, we practiced a complex communication system utilizing special lines of connection. Friends
and family members, jeepneys and cars were involved in our “padala “ (courier) system from Salay to Cagayan. A staff member
from the Cagayan Office meets a commercial jeepney passenger line that carried in his commercial route diskettes of precious
messages at Agora Bus Terminal. When urgent, we faxed messages from Salay for encoding in our Cagayan SHAPIISHOP for it to be
sent through the net. There were other innovative ways we accessed to in order to sustain an open line between our buyers,
suppliers, friends and family promptly. When in the rural area, one must be innovative to make do in business! Yes, try we
did…and we succeeded despite high level of pressure at times. The cost of maintaining this kind of system is really high,
but there was no other choice since communication is the lifeblood of an export-oriented company.
But not anymore! SHAPII is now linked to the world with the help of a friend in the shipping/logistic business.
An air card was provided and installed last June and whalah! Problem solved! Our line is powered by Smart at the speed
of 220 kbps. It’s not fast but not bad either.
Everyone is most happy at this development not only for its faster communication but for other things as well.
Aside from the fact that the Marketing personnel can now directly receive and make their reply fast from the Main Office,
attachments received in our CDO SHAPIISHOP net that usually were sent to Salay in a diskette via jeep (transit time: 1 day)
is now available in minutes. The Product Development officers that used to surf for new ideas in Cagayan or in Balingasag
now do it right in their workplace too. Comparing prices is also done thru the web faster. Now, we have one staff less in
our CDO SHAPIISHOP…she works with us in our Main Office in Salay now because the NET is here!
At SHAPII Foundation 6 computer units are available for the students and the community for research. They are now saved
from fare expense just to be able to do the net.
We hope the wonder of this technology will enrich our lives even more as we use it to prosper in our business and make
our studies better at a faster pace.
