The process of selecting scholars
begins with a preliminary interview, here done by secretary
Rose Ladica with Ella Mae Nieri.
The family of the
applicant and other members of the family are also interviewed
in their own homes. Here, Jasmin Piquero jots down her impressions.
After the interviews, the applicants take
a competitive qualifying exam. Here, Loreta Rafisura watches
the first applicants in year 2000.
Benefits to Scholars
Scholars are given first priority
in SHAPII activity: Here, they learn Introduction to Microsoft
Word and Excel for 36 hours at SHAPII Foundation. They use
the 16 computer sets donated by Vivien Caroll of Australia
through Swinburne University and TESDA-Region 10.
As SHAPII Foundation starts to have the
Reading Center, the scholars and the community can have
access to free reading at minimal rates. Contemporary books
and magazines are donated by civic spirited people.
